Work continues on the all-important GP Premises Review that is now due to be published by the early summer. The consultation which started September 2018 involves the BMA, the NHS and the RCGP.
A number of issues are being explored and key to the findings will be reassurances on the future length and lease structure for GP owned buildings,
One of the latest proposals announced last month was introducing a new NHS Body that would be directly responsible for holding the lease and potentially taking back the building from the last man standing if no other party were able to take it on.
Hopefully the full results will be known very soon but inevitably premises ownership for new partners remains a very difficult problem given all the uncertainty and lack of solutions for GPs.
GPER provides security and an exit for the “last man standing” and a future for the practice that is sustainable and secure.
