GPER provides the opportunity for GPs to sell just their equity in their premises to GPER, who then becomes a silent co-owning property partner with the remaining GPs. This is usually, but not necessarily, at retirement.
GPER can buy the equity stake from already retired GPs, or those simply wanting to realise their equity in their surgery premises for other purposes. The arrangement is unique and has no impact whatsoever on the partnership structure/agreement or the practice’s GMS or PMS contract.
By GPER becoming a co-owner of the building we allow the departing GP to retire without the need for any incoming GP, or the remaining partners, to buy them out.
